The best things come in little packages: this is the ethos behind Iris Bakery: a little shop nestled on Hurstpierpoint High Street where sourdough bread, buns, cakes and brownies are carefully handcrafted in small batches. Keeping things small means everything that comes out of my on-site kitchen gets the attention it deserves, from the choice of ingredients right through to the final bake.
Who is Iris?
Not me! I (Lizzie) named the bakery Iris because they are my favourite flowers, and, less so, because Iris Murdoch is one of my favourite authors.
When are you open?
I'm currently open Thursday - Saturday 8.30 am to 2 pm. I'm gradually building up a (wonderful) team of helpers, but the multi-day schedule that good sourdough bread requires means 3 days a week is the best option at the moment.
Can I order in advance?
Yes! I've set up a pre-order system for bread on Thursdays for anyone who wants to be guaranteed a loaf before the weekend rush - just see the 'Products' tab above to order for the coming Thursday. You can also fill out the contact form below for custom cake orders (in general I need a minimum of one week's notice for this, but can sometimes be flexible!).
I also love to chat with all my customers and you are very welcome to come in and ask in person about ordering if you prefer that to ordering online.
